Series # 99 Better Than Hollywood Marvin Bu Ga Lu Smith

Series #99 PART 1 "BETTER THAN HOLLYWOOD" THE MASTER SESSIONS Of Marvin Bu Ga Lu Smith
Featuring Ben Newsome,Lew Scott

My Shining Hour, the first song of the evening is fast, bright, flowing, moment to moment, airborne, harmonic, emotional, sensitive,LOVING and Healing. Ben Newsome is a great upcoming Jazz Artist and is featured here blowing hard in the wind and balancing his expressions so cleverly along with Bu Ga Lu and Lew Scott to form what I call a GREAT EXAMPLE OF BEAUTIFUL FLOWING ENERGY. I loved this song, especially the half time expression periods when Marvin, Ben and Lew slowed the tempo down toward the end so that even an idiot like me could understand it.
The Days Of Wine and Roses starts with a highly expressive groove with Marvin leading the CATS into the Melody of this well known tune. Just listen to the intricate cymbal work of Marvin and the great listening efforts of each player reacting to each other. The lightness at times creates such a powerful statement and the respect for silence between the notes is apparent.
Funky Swing Blues starts off with Marvin leading the CATS into a super deep, hard hitting swinging blues, the kind that makes you dance around sort of the way MONK did when he got up from the piano and side-stepped all over the place with ultimate joy. Yeah, BU GA LU SWINGS SO HARD, IT'S NO ACCIDENT THAT EVERYONE FROM MODERN DRUMMER MAGAZINE AND ALL THE JAZZ FESTIVALS ARE TALKING ABOUT THIS SUPER TALENT. Just listen to the way he drives both Ben and Lew into THE ZONE of UNREHEARSED MUSICAL, FLOWING JOY. Ben Newsome is such a FRESH, NEW, CREATIVE ARTIST ON THE SCENE and FOR SURE, WILL BE NOTICED AROUND THE WORLD THIS YEAR AS THE YOUNG TALENTED SAX PLAYER BECOMES MORE VISIBLE. Marvin started using Ben at many of the sessions and the response by listeners has been enormous. Lew Scott's bass solo on this FUNKY,SWINGING piece is magnificent. I loved Marvin's brush work here. He is such a MASTER of EXPRESSION. Those brushes GLIDE.
Blues in 3/4 starts out with another Marvin Bu Ga Lu Smith drumming expression and the 6 feeling wrapped around the 3. I love it. Invitation moved me deeply, especially listening to Lew Scott's bass solo with Marvin surrounding him with brush love. Yeah, BRUSH LOVE is what I call it as it stimulates all the HEALING ENZYMES IN YOUR BODY TO FLOW and BRING ABOUT CALMNESS AND DEEP, POWERFUL THOUGHTS OF PEACE. Right after Lew's solo, Marvin moved across the horizon with his beautifully expressive, joyfulness and opens up his loving soul for all to hear. His drumming is so colorful that words can't do enough for it, you MUST LISTEN CAREFULLY WITH AN OPEN HEART and ALLOW THE DRUMS TO HEAL YOU AND RECEIVE THE JOY THAT ALL THREE CATS PROJECTED AT THIS MASTERFUL SESSION SERIES # 99 PART 1.
LOVE ALWAYS and ALWAYS LOVE,
HABIB
