Marvin continues in his effort to teach how important it is to "PUT SELF LAST", "LOSE THE EGO","BE COMPASSIONATE", "GIVE EVERYTHING AWAY","BRING OUT THE TRUTH IN EVERYTHING YOU DO", "LIVE THE TRUTH AND NOT A LIE","PLAY WHAT YOU LIVE". His NATURAL FLOW IS APPARENT IN EVERY MOVE HE MAKES. THERE'S NEVER ANY BULLSHIT, JUST TRUTHFUL ACTION! Listen carefully to every note and how deep THE PULSE OF EACH NOTE GOES, RIGHT INTO "THE CORE" OR "HEART CENTER" OF EVERY BEAT. They are NOT PRISONERS OF THEMSELVES BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SELFISH. They give things away with COMPASSION. They're NOT LOOKING FOR APPLAUSE. They know who they are and can communicate LOVE OF THE MUSIC. They're Not trying to be BAD ASS MOTHER F_C_ERS! They are positive about their direction. They move forward and FLOW LIKE THE WIND, SHINE LIKE THE SUN, SWEAT LIKE THE RAIN AND LAUGH LIKE THE OCEAN. These players that have lived a LONGER LIFETIME have much to teach others. They can turn a FART INTO A CHORD and A CHORD INTO A BEAUTIFUL COLORFUL SOUND THAT YOU CAN SMELL AND VIEW AS REALISTIC, TRUTHFUL STATEMENTS OF BALANCE and HARMONY! Any fool can create distortion but only a MASTER CAN TURN DISTORTION INTO A HARMONIC, BEAUTIFUL, UNDERSTANDABLE SONG! I love the way Marvin Smith can draw such a DEEP, UNIQUE SOUND OUT OF HIS DRUMS. IT LOOKS LIKE HE'S PLAYING HARD BUT HE'S ACTUALLY PLAYING LIGHTLY, GENTLY BUT HE DRAWS HIS POWER THAT WAY BECAUSE HE'S RELEASING INNER CHI. Marvin is a one of a kind person. In addition to playing those drums so uniquely and masterfully, he also teaches on a masterful level, composes music, produces sessions like this one, records in his own studio using the latest technology,has his own company BUMAR RECORDS, his own radio television media organization, MARBIB RADIO TELEVISION, his own production company COMPASSIONATE SOUND and MOTION and an organization of caring staff made up of drummers. Everyone involved with Marvin Smith is a gifted musical person that can play an instrument and also wear many different hats to make his company operate smoothly and FLOW, just the way he does. Yeah, over 1500 music videos remain the ACTUAL PROOF that Marvin Smith is "DOIN IT" and "BETTER THAN HOLLYWOOD" and he's DOIN IT AND TELLING THE TRUTH. Series 116 PART 2, TEACHING MUGGY, MARVIN SMITH'S STUDENT
Series 116 PART 2 is all about ACTUAL PROOF. All of Marvin Smith's Videos show students what to do as a DRUM COMMUNICATOR. This particular example shows how a young student of Marvin's from Germany learned how to listen, observe and execute what the MASTER SMITH TAUGHT HIM in the short 3 years of their relationship. "MUGGY" as he's known, has only been playing drums for 3 YEARS but he has taken the time to study hard and do the required work that it takes to become ONE OF MARVIN SMITH'S FINEST STUDENTS. I don't think I'VE EVER HEARD A STUDENT SOUND SO WELL AFTER ONLY THREE YEARS OF EXPOSURE TO THE INSTRUMENT. HE FLOWS THE WAY MARVIN FLOWS BECAUSE HE HAS NO OBSTACLES IN HIS WAS. Marvin has been effective teaching MUGGY because MUGGY has an ability to THROW HIS EGO DOWN THE DRAIN AND ABSORB EVERYTHING HE HEARS AROUND HIM. HE ALSO IS INTERACTIVE WITHOUT LOOKING FOR APPLAUSE. I AM SI IMPRESSED WITH THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MARVIN SMITH'S TEACHING THAT I WOULD ENCOURAGE ANY SERIOUS DRUM STUDENT TO START TO ACTUALLY "LIVE THE LIFE OF MUSIC EVERY MOMENT". This is not a secondary thing. Drumming means also learning about songs and the structure of songs. Drumming means sacrifice and as you can witness here by listening to this wonderful student perform, IT CAN BE DONE and MARVIN SMITH'S TEACHINGS WORK AND THEY WORK QUICKLY AS THIS VIDEO SHOWS PROOF OF THAT. LISTEN TO THIS VIDEO SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE IT WILL SHOW MANY OF THE INTRICACIES OF MARVIN'S ABILITY TO "BRING OUT THE INDIVIDUALISM OF WHO YOU ARE AS A PERSON". Yeah, MUGGY SOUNDS LIKE MUGGY. Folks, it's AUTOMATIC PILOT once again as you listen carefully to THE GREAT FLOW that comes from Marvin Smith. This music is so real and IN THE MOMENT that all you have to do is LET YOURSELF GO and think of nothing. Simply sit back and allow yourself to VANISH, losing all thoughts of anything that might interfere with your NATURAL GOODNESS and THE UNIQUENESS that makes you as UNIQUE as each of these three MASTER MUSICIANS. Marvin has once again picked "A CHERRY" to go on top of his ICE CREAM SUNDAE. Chris Pasin, is one of the finest TRUMPET PLAYERS that I have heard in a long time. His smooth, deep feeling is present through every CLUSTER of notes that come out of his horn. Chris has that individual sound which identifies him as one of the GREAT TRUMPET MASTERS. Marvin Smith has a way of gathering great players into his new 48 track studio on Talmadge Street in Poughkeepsie, NY. Robert Kopec has a very special sound on the bass. You can feel a genuine voice of GOODNESS and LOVE throughout this RECORDING as he blends together with Marvin's beautiful grooves and expresses himself by pulling so colorfully on his bass, voicing harmonically and driving the music along with Marvin, into a NEW SPIRITUAL ZONE, BAR AFTER BAR of GOOSE BUMP DEPTH! I Loved the way PASIN DEVELOPS PHRASES and executes them with SMOOTH FIRE that becomes easy to understand. Chris seems to have a special way of making some of the most intense statements easy for anyone to understand. The listener is taken on a MUSICAL VACATION on Series 116 of Marvin's MASTER SESSION THAT IS TRULY, "BETTER THAN HOLLYWOOD". Marvin Smith has done it once again. He has put together another example of "IN THE MOMENT/ MOMENT TO MOMENT, UNREHEARSED, IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE" MUSIC THAT WILL HEAL YOU. This music has such a positive effect on your ears as it becomes EAR CANDY as you listen to it. It will make you feel JOYFUL, especially if you listen to it several times as it will tell a different story every time you hear it, just the way A GREAT PAINTING SPEAKS TO YOU DIFFERENTLY EVERY TIME YOU VIEW IT. I am so delighted to be IN THE MOMENT with Marvin, Chris and Robert as I allow them to push me into such a powerful healing zone that this music represents. I feel better after hearing this music than I did an hour before listening to it. I hope you can throw away all your problems and allow Marvin Smith, Chris Pasin and Robert Kopec touch your INNER SELF!
HABIB has felt so warmed over by this entire performance, loving all three of these guys playing so together. It seems ironic that the three of them played three songs and the underlying feeling has such a great breath of freshness that keeps THE SOUL FOCUSED and brings forth what I like to call "SOUND FOOD FOR THE SOUL" If a listener concentrates on NOT CONCENTRAING, BUT LET'S THINGS BE NATURALLY WHAT THEY ARE, THEN HEALING TAKES PLACE.
It is so,so healing as all three of these songs have so much to say and show such a wide array of emotions throughout this Series 116 Journey. I loved the SOLAR PIECE and then, all of a sudden we're somewhere else. Things are always changing throughout this session. The solo work by KOPEC IS AMAZING and the dynamics of MARVIN'S PLAYING TURN EVERY STONE, INCLUDING ALL THE LITTLE PEBBLES OVER WITH NOTHING LEFT OUT! Chris Pasin has his own unique statements and shows his diversity on each of these tunes. I especially liked his great tone on the last tune. SUCH GREAT VIBRATIONS OF JOY COMES THROUGH THIS. IT IS ALL STATED IN 25 MINUTES OF MARVELOUS EXPRESSIONS. Yeah, SOLAR HOOKED ME RIGHT AT THE START OF THE EVENING, OR, MAYBE IT'S MORNING AND THE BIRDS AREN'T SINGING BECAUSE THEY'RE LISTENING TO THESE CATS SINGING!
